The Mommies Network is more than just communities of moms and dads. We are parents in and for the community. Our members work full time, stay home full time, work part time, represent many races, adopted children, were adopted themselves, are newcomers to the area, are natives to the area, have twins, are happy with one, are single parents, are just beginning their journey as parents and have watched their kids graduate.
In other words, we are a reflection of mothers and fathers in the real world.
And we help out our neighbors as much as ourselves through organized fundraisers and other charity events - specifically those focused on providing for parents and their children. Once our communities are a year old they organize at least two charitable events or drives each year, focused on helping moms, dads and/or kids.
Each community also assists members in finding local charitable opportunities via our Volunteer Match Program. It's a great way for everyone to give back to their community while having fun and making a difference in the lives of other moms, dads and kids.
Here are some examples of charitable works done by our Network communities:
Charitable Baby Showers
Several sites have held "baby shower" like events where the beneficiary of the presents are local charities for expecting moms. Our CharlotteMommies community held theirs July 2006 with 75 moms and their families in attendance. A very fun van load of diapers, formula and other baby items plus a total of $400 were donated to the YMCA Strengthening Families program and the local Battered Women's Shelter.
That same year our TriangleMommies community held a Charitable Shower benefiting Pregnancy Support Services. They donated a huge amount of baby items plus $240 in cash.
In April 2007 our TriadMommies community held a Charitable Shower and to benefit Babylove, a division of DSS. Their efforts resulted in a donation of 170 new items as well as 5 boxes/bags of used clothing and toys. |
Charitable Walks
Our communities are always participating in local walks to benefit various causes. In April 2007 we had six communities participating in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica fundraiser to support research on birth defects and prematurity. Together the teams from RichmondMommies, TriangleMommies, TriadMommies, PeninsulaMommies, FrederickMommies and AtlantaAreaMommies raised over $12,500.
Food, Clothing and Stamp Drives
Our RichmondMommies community held a drive for postage stamps in the spring of 2007 and collected over 200 stamps for the local Ronald McDonald House. A food drive this community held in January resulted in 96 lbs. of food to a local food bank.
